Study international business in London!

International Study in Business: London, United Kingdom, is an integrated class investigating management practices of HR and leadership in the United Kingdom. Not only will participants visit one of the most modern yet historic cities in the world, they will learn how management policies and practices differ between the US and the UK. The Brexit context makes this course a particularly relevant and informative experience for graduating students of all levels.

We will have five pre-trip required course sessions (March 17, April 7, 21, and May 5; 9:00 to 12:00 am each day) that will set the context and expectations for the trip. During the one-week visit, we will stay in a business-class hotel, make daily business and cultural visits, and meet periodically to discuss and debrief learning. Following the trip, we will meet once on Friday evening, June 8, to consolidate and process the course experience.

This course is limited to juniors, seniors, and graduate students.

Participants in this program will meet with top leaders of prominent London organizations as well as experience significant historical cultural sites and concepts. Additionally, we will do a walking tour of key London attractions (Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, and others), cruise down the Thames from Westminster to Greenwich, and experience the sights, sounds, and experiences of typical Londoners. We will take time as a group to discuss and digest key learning. A wrap-up dinner is included in the trip to be held on Friday evening, before Saturday departure.

This course is designed to provide a study-abroad experience for the student.  The course involves three components: study of international management through on-campus lectures and discussions; travel to a foreign country for visitations to business firms, government organizations, and cultural sites; and critique sessions of the international learning experience after travel completion. Three credits. Prerequisites required as noted in UMKC catalog


Housing will be a business-class hotel withing commuting distance of central London. Double occupancy. We will make every effort to accommodate roommate choice but cannot guarantee it.

A $500 deposit and all application materials are due by February 20, 2018. The final program fee payment of $325 is due March 15, 2018. The program deposit of $500 will be refunded to applicants who are not selected for the program. All other payments are nonrefundable. The total balance, which will include tuition for three UMKC credit hours (rates based on students' individual degree programs) for the summer session will be posted to your UMKC student account. The Cashiers and Collections office will send you an email and direct you on how to make the UMKC tuition bill payment.
