  •   Overview


This scholarship honors Dr. William Q. Wu, descendant of a scholarly family of Canton, China, who received his undergraduate and medical degrees in the U.S.  Dr. Wu served in WWII, practiced as a neurosurgeon in Kansas City, and was a professor-emeritus of UMKC’s School of Medicine. Recipients will be selected by a committee of the Edgar Snow Memorial Foundation.
 

  •   General Eligibility & Applicant Guidelines


*Note: The Scholarship varies its recipients from year to year. In odd years, it is awarded to American students studying in China, and in even years it is given to Chinese students studying at UMKC.
 
Eligibility criteria
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Full-time Student
  • Studying some aspect of China, e.g. political system, history, art, language, scientific innovation, etc.
  • Undergraduates: must have had two UMKC semesters before applying.
  • Graduate students: must have had one previous semester before applying.
  • First Professional: must have had one UMKC semester before applying
  • The award is to be applied against international travel to China and will be applied to the student's UMKC account
  • The Committee reserves the right not to make an award in any competition year
  • Personal Statement should include:
    • What kinds of experiences sparked your interest in China?
    • What what courses or subject will you study while in China?
    • What do you see yourself doing with reference to China in ten years' time?
