Missouri-Portugal Summer Program in Lisbon

Study Abroad Portugal
Missouri-Portugal Program (MPP)
Study in Portugal this summer!

Choose either a 4 or 8-week session for Summer 2018

Courses available vary per session. Students may participate in one or both sessions. Courses are between 3 and 6 credits per session.

In 2016, the Missouri Consortium for International Program and Studies (MOCON), at the initiative of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), began the Missouri-Portugal Program (MPP) in Lisbon. All MOCON member institutions may send students to the program. MPP works with colleagues at the Study in Portugal Network (SiPN). The Missouri-Portugal program and SiPN merge concentrated learning with a broad range of new experiences that develop the student as an individual, frequently leading to growth in personal responsibility, maturity, and increased intercultural competence. Students will receive academic-oriented study tours in order to discover all that Portugal provides off the tourist-beaten path.

The housing option is designed to maximize intercultural awareness. For example, wherever possible SiPN houses MPP students on the same floor as other international and/or Portuguese students studying in Lisbon. They also invite these other mobility students along on study tours on a space available basis, to deepen friendships and opportunities for intercultural learning.

Academic Calendar (Including the SiPN orientation sessions):

Summer 2018 (there are two 4-week, self-contained sessions):
  • June (Lisbon session: June 2-30, 2018; Please note that June dates are different for the session in the Azores)
  • July (July 2-30, 2018)
Summer Internships require an 8-week commitment (they combine June and July sessions)

Calendar for academic transcript mailing from the Study in Portugal Network:

Transcripts are send approximately 60 days after the last final exam at the Portuguese partner schools. Note: University final exam schedules vary.
All interested UMKC students should contact the UMKC faculty liaison Dr. Allan Katz.

Both an application to the Study in Portugal Network and an application to UMKC's International Academic Programs is required.
